GOP rips gov on pardons of parolees

- BY KENNETH LOVETT

ALBANY — The state Republican party on Monday is unveiling a hard-hitting new digital ad attacking Gov. Cuomo over his order granting widespread conditional pardons to thousands of parolees so they can vote, the Daily News has learned.

The ad, which coincides with two state Senate hearings this week on the issue, also hammers the mostly Cuomo-appointed Parole Board’s recent decisions to release several cop killers and convicted sex predators from prison.

“Andrew Cuomo and his Parole Board are putting murderers, kidnappers and sex offenders back on our streets,” the ad says.

Among those it references are cop killer Herman Bell and Marybeth Tinning, a New York mom convicted of murdering her 4-month-old daughter in 1985 and suspected of killing more of her children.

“Then Cuomo gave them the right to vote,” the ad says. “Tell Andrew Cuomo he can have the vote of rapists and murderers, but he can’t have ours.”

State GOP spokeswoman Jessica Proud wouldn’t detail specifically how much is being spent on the ad, but said it is a “robust” figure. She said it will target social media largely downstate.

Meanwhile, the Senate GOP hearings are set for Monday in Albany and Tuesday on Long Island.

Senate GOP spokeswoman Candice Giove said since the governor (inset) in May granted his first round of conditional pardons to more than 24,000 parolees, 488 have “lost their Cuomo-given right to vote because they either committed a new crime or violated their parole.” Among them, Giove said, were three who were originally convicted of murder, four of manslaughter and 47 who committed a sex crime.

Cuomo spokesman Richard Azzopardi reiterated that the governor has disagreed with some decisions the Parole Board has made, including the one to release Bell.
