Unreleased Tupac tunes reclaimed

- Peter Sblendorio

There have been big “Changes” to the state of some of Tupac Shakur’s previously unreleased music.

A bundle of recordings that the hip-hop icon made before his death has been returned to his estate as part of a settlement to a drawn-out legal struggle, according to TMZ.

Tupac’s estate had accused the Entertainment One company in a 2013 lawsuit of keeping a stranglehold on the rapper’s unheard master tracks while also holding on to royalties for some of his music.

The “Dear Mama” artist’s unreleased recordings will now be returned to his estate, while a six-figure payment will be made to cover the royalties.

It’s unclear what the future holds for those unreleased tracks.

Shakur’s mother, Afeni, had been at the forefront of her son’s estate, and the legal battle for his recordings continued after her death in 2016. Tupac died at 25 in 1996 in an unsolved drive-by shooting.
