Anderson avoids NFL suspension

- BY MANISH MEHTA

Robby Anderson has avoided a suspension from the NFL stemming from a pair of arrests in the past year. A league spokesman told the Daily News Wednesday morning that the Jets wide receiver will not be suspended after the matter was reviewed.

However, Anderson was fined an undisclosed amount for his involvement in the two incidents, according to a source.

The Jets believed for a while that Anderson wouldn't be suspended, but was awaiting official word.

“I'm thankful and glad that the world knows… My fans don't have to worry,” Anderson said Wednesday. “I'm a very strong-minded individual even when the situation happened (and) I went to jail. The allegations and stories… I can't really get caught up in perceptions and what people think, because I knew deep down what the truth was. I wouldn't say that I was ever worried about being suspended. I didn't really think that that would ever happen to be honest.”

Anderson's May 2017 resisting-arrest charge that occurred at a Miami Beach music festival was dropped this offseason. Anderson received six months probation after pleading no contest to a misdemeanor reckless driving charge after allegedly trying to flee police. The incident grabbed headlines after Anderson allegedly threatened to sexual assault the arresting officer's wife. That charge was later dropped.

So, the Jets' best deep threat will be available for the rest of the season.

“I don't know if it's a relief or not, but I'm glad it happened so we don't have to spend time working on (alternative plans),” Todd Bowles said Wednesday. “And they didn't (suspend him during the season). So, it's good for us.”

Anderson, the team's leading receiver last season, only has eight receptions for 108 yards and one touchdown through the first four games this year.

“I'm just ready for us to make that turn,” Anderson said. “Since I've been a Jet, we haven't hit that pinnacle… We're trying, but trying is not good enough. It's got to get done…. I know everybody's talking about my production. A lot of things are out of my control. Of course, I want to contribute, more importantly, I want to win.”

NOTES

Bowles and players downplayed the idea that the defensive players will hold a playersonly meeting every Friday starting this week to review assignments and sharpen communication in the wake of their blowout loss to the Jaguars.

“That's typical,” Bowles said of players huddling up on Fridays. “Everywhere I've been that's been a typical Friday…. It's happened every year since I've been here.”

INJURY REPORT

WR Charone Peake (hamstring) and TE Neal Sterling (concussion) didn't practice Wednesday. Safety Marcus Maye (ankle/foot) and center Spencer Long (knee/finger) were limited.
