‘Chilling’ anti-immigrant posters pop up in Queens

- Chris Sommerfeldt

Anti-immigrant flyers designed by a notorious white supremacist group are popping up around Queens, according to a city councilman.

Democrat Jimmy Van Bramer spotted the hateful signs while out for a morning jog in his neighborhood Sunday. He says he stopped in his tracks and tore them down.

The Queens pol told the Daily News the inflammatory flyers, believed tied to violent neo-Nazi group Vanguard America, were posted on electrical cabinets near the corner of Skillman Ave. and 35th St. in Sunnyside. “It was meant to send a chilling message to all immigrants and to get people to turn on their neighbors,” Van Bramer said. “It’s outrageous.”

The flyers, which have been found on college campuses across the country, calls on people to rat out undocumented immigrants.

“A notice to all citizens of the United States of America: It is your civic duty to report any and all illegal aliens to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. They have broken the law,” the flyers say.

The councilman said the posters were meant to stoke hatred against Sunnyside’s diverse immigrant community. The neighborhood is 35% Hispanic, 34% Asian, 28% white and 2% African-American, according to the latest census.

Dillon Hopper, leader of Vanguard America, confirmed his organization is behind the flyers’ design but his members haven’t posted them in Queens.
