NYPD bigs’ son charged with DWI
An off-duty NYPD detective who is the son of two retired police bigwigs was busted on drunken driving charges after he crashed into parked cars on a Harlem street, police said Monday.
Nalik Zeigler, 35, was arrested about 10:30 p.m. after crashing on W. 132rd St. near Lenox Ave., authorities said. He was charged with DWI and refusing to take a Breathalyzer test. He was released without bail Monday.
Zeigler is the son of NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Equal Employment Opportunitiy Neldra Zeigler, who retired in June, and retired Chief Douglas Zeigler, who headed the department's Community Affairs Bureau, sources said. He was the NYPD's highest-ranking African American cop when he retired in June 2010.
Nalik Zeigler is assigned to the NYPD's Intelligence Division. He was suspended without pay.
