Boxer slapped with new rap
3rd arrest involving ex-girlfriend
Pro boxer and former Olympian Marcus Browne has been arrested for allegedly choking his ex-girlfriend — his third arrest involving her, the Daily News has learned.
The undefeated light heavyweight attacked the 30-year-old victim, the mother of his daughter, during an argument inside her Park Hill Ave. apartment in Clifton, S.I., the morning of Sept. 27, prosecutors charge.
Their daughter was not there but the victim’s mother was, a source said.
Browne, 27, of Staten Island, grabbed the woman around her neck, then repeatedly kicked the front door, damaging it, prosecutors say.
When the victim’s mother tried to call 911, Browne grabbed the phone from her and took off, according to court papers.
Browne was arrested Monday and charged with harassment, criminal mischief and criminal obstruction of breathing along with criminal contempt for violating an order of protection,
He posted $2,500 bail and was released.
“Obviously he’s denying the allegations,” Browne’s lawyer Joe Murray said Tuesday.
Murray said Brown loves his daughter and him and the child’s mother have to work together as co-parents.
Browne’s legal woes started last December when he was charged with attempted assault and harassment after he fought with his girlfriend at her place.
He allegedly grabbed her by the arm and neck, then hit her face with his finger, causing a bruise near her right eye.
Three months later, he was accused of violating an order of protection by showing up at her apartment, bashing the front door and threatening to bust the window, authorities said.
The two cases were combined, and Browne pleaded guilty last month to disorderly conduct, got a conditional discharge and was ordered to complete a domestic violence course. The order of protection was kept in place.
Browne, a three-time Daily News Golden Gloves winner with a 21-0 record as a professional, was set to fight Sergey (Krusher) Kovalev at Madison Square Garden over the summer — and would have likely fought for the title if he won that bout.
But plans for the fight were never finalized because of Browne’s legal problems, sources said.
Browne fought in the 2012 Olympic Games in London, but lost in the first round to Australian Damien Hooper.
