An Upper West Side man was busted for killing his 75-year-old dad by slamming the senior citizen against an apartment wall during an argument, police said Tuesday.

Neighbors in the Bronx apartment building where John Murphy suffered a fatal brain injury were stunned to learn of the death — and the arrest of the victim’s son Brian Murphy (r.).

The son checked himself into an upstate rehab facility for a monthlong stay the day after his father died on Sept. 12 — and was arrested when he returned to New York on Monday, cops said.

Murphy confessed to attacking his dad, a police source said. He was charged with manslaughter, aggravated criminally negligent homicide and assault.

“I was coming home from out of town and then I saw the crime scene and I was like, ‘Oh my God, what happened?’ ” said one woman who lives in the building. “That’s when someone mentioned that (the dad) died at the hospital. I was really shocked.”

According to cops, Brian Murphy, 46, was visiting his dad on Fieldston Road in Riverdale on Aug. 21 when he bounced the older man off a wall during argument in the victim’s basement apartment.

Brian Murphy then dialed 911 — not to report the father was injured but to describe a scene where his emotionally disturbed dad was disoriented and acting irrationally, cops said. The father was taken to Montefiore Medical Center, where he died three weeks later.

An autopsy revealed the septuagenarian’s death was due to bleeding on the brain, with the medical examiner ruling it a homicide.

Brian Murphy was arraigned Tuesday in Bronx Criminal Court.

“Mr. Murphy did not run. He fully cooperated with police because he had nothing to hide,” said his attorney Emily Prokesch. “Mr. Murphy has the absolute full support of his family.”
