Gang Green dumps injured receiver Pryor

- DAILY NEWS SPORTS STAFF

Too hurt to play, the Jets released Terrelle Pryor on Saturday.

Pryor, in his first season with Gang Green, has a slight tear in his groin and the team felt the injury was significant enough to part ways with the wide receiver.

Surgery is not in the plans for now, a source told the Daily News. The Jets would reportedly be interested in bringing Pryor back when he gets healthy.

With Quincy Enunwa out for Sunday’s game against the Vikings with a sprained ankle, the Jets signed WR Deontay Burnett from the practice squad to take Pryor’s spot on the active roster. Burnett was a teammate of QB Sam Darnold at USC.

Pryor, the former Ohio State quarterback-turnedNFL-wide receiver, signed a free-agent deal with the Jets on March 26 after a forgettable season in Washington.

Pryor, 29, had largely been an afterthought in the Jets offense this season. He caught just 14 passes through the first six weeks of the season for 235 yards and two touchdowns.

After signing a one-year, $4.5 million deal after an injury-plagued campaign with Washington, Pryor suffered what was described as a slight groin injury in practice leading up to a Week 4 loss to the Jaguars. He played just two snaps against the Jags and was targeted just once the following week in a win against the Broncos.

“I’m ready to explode,” Pryor told the Daily News on Oct. 4. “So, whenever I get the chance and opportunity to get more than two targets or whatever, I’ll show you guys what I can do. Until then, there ain’t much I can do other than be a good teammate and be a good role model.”

Pryor revealed in August that he underwent ankle surgery in May, his second surgery in an eight-month time period. The spring surgery was not related to the foot surgery that cut short his season with Washington.

Jets head coach Todd Bowles was unhappy with Pryor for going public with the news of his May surgery.

“Terrelle doesn’t need to be descriptive,” Bowles said during training camp. “I feel that he should keep his mouth shut and leave the injuries to me … I’ve already handled it. We had a conversation.”

After starting his pro career as a quarterback — going 3-7 over two seasons with the Raiders — Pryor transitioned to full-time wide receiver after signing with the Browns in December 2015. His breakout season came in 2016 when he started 15 games and hauled in 77 passes for 1,0007 yards and four touchdowns.

The foot injury limited Pryor to just two starts last season with Washington.
