Pizza guy’s wife: Divorce spurred shove

- BY GRAHAM RAYMAN

The undocumented pizza delivery man who gained fame this summer after immigration officials detained him got physical with his wife because of anger over her demands for a divorce, she claimed to police in court papers.

Pablo Villavicencio, 35, started an argument with Sandra Chica in their Hempstead, L.I., home Oct. 18 about 11:30 a.m. because he couldn’t find their children’s passports. Chica told him the passports were in a locked safe.

“Pablo demanded that I go upstairs and retrieve them,” she wrote. “I told him I would get them later. This made Pablo very angry.”

The argument escalated into a physical confrontation, Chica wrote.

“He has been increasingly angry recently since I told him I wanted a divorce. He grabbed me by the right arm and pushed me against the wall. He attempted to slap my chest and I blocked it with my arm. I then pushed him away and told him I was calling the police. He then took my phone and placed it in his pocket.”

Chica left the home and filed a report at the town’s police station.

“I did not give him permission to take my phone and I am requesting he be arrested,” she wrote.

Villavicencio, an Ecuadoran native whose twomonth detention by ICE officials became an immigration debate flashpoint, was arraigned on one misdemeanor count of criminal mischief Monday. He was released from jail Tuesday after posting $500 bail.
