Susp fone has Karina clues: cop

The man accused of sexually assaulting and murdering a Queens jogger sought forgiveness — on a cell phone.

Murder suspect Chanel Lewis’ phone contained 137 search history items deemed relevant to the prosecution case, including his cyberspace hunt for the Catholic “Sacrament of Penance” Wikipedia page, a police detective testified Tuesday.

The black ZTE cell phone was found Feb. 5, 2017, when cops with a warrant searched Lewis’ Brooklyn home, said NYPD Computer Crimes Squad Detective Josue Rivera in Queens Supreme Court. Cops grabbed the phone from atop a dresser in Lewis’ bedroom, according to the witness.

Rivera said investigators also found two photos of the victim, 30-year-old Karina Vetrano, along with a photo of the crime scene on the phone. All were from online news articles.

Vetrano left her Howard Beach home for a jog by herself mere minutes before she allegedly encountered Lewis on a desolate stretch in nearby Spring Creek Park. Authorities charged that he sexually abused and viciously beat Vetrano — even knocking out her teeth.

On cross-examination, defense attorney Julia Burke asked Rivera if there was any evidence of her client searching for the victim’s name.

“You can’t testify that the name Karina Vetrano was ever search by the user, is that correct?” she asked. “That is correct,” the detective acknowledged after a long pause.

Last week, jurors heard Lewis confessing to the Aug. 2, 2016, murder during a recorded interview with police at the 107th Precinct stationhouse. Prosecutors said there was a DNA match between the suspect and the victim to go along with the confession.

Among Lewis’s other online searches were a news article headlined “After a Crime, the Price of a Second Chance,” along with hunts for “Miranda warning,” “arraignment” and “what happens after a felony conviction?”

Lewis, 22, faces life imprisonment if convicted in the savage attack.
