‘Little House’ actress MacGregor dies at 93

Katherine MacGregor, the actress best known for playing fiery busybody Harriet Oleson on “Little House on the Prairie,” has died at age 93.

She passed away Tuesday at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital retirement community in Los Angeles, a spokeswoman told The Hollywood Reporter.

Mrs. Oleson was the malicious but comedic co-owner of Oleson's Mercantile, which she ran with her good-natured husband, Nels.

Melissa Gilbert — who starred on the NBC Western drama series as Laura Ingalls Wilder, who was often terrorized by Mrs. Oleson and her daughter Nellie — paid tribute to MacGregor (photo inset) on Instagram.

“This woman taught me so much ... about acting ... vintage jewelry ... life,” Gilbert wrote alongside a photo of the pair acting together on “Little House.”

“She was outspoken and hilariously funny. A truly gifted actress as she was able to play a despicable character but with so much heart.

“Her Harriet Oleson was the woman our fans loved to hate,” Gilbert added. “A perfect antagonist. The thing people outside of our ‘Prairie' family didn't know was how loving and nurturing she was with the younger cast. I really loved her and I find great comfort knowing that she is at peace and, per her beliefs, her soul has moved on to its next incarnation.”

Also known as Scottie MacGregor, she was born Dorlee Deane McGregor in Glendale, Calif., in 1925. After graduating from Northwestern University, she moved to New York and worked as a dance instructor and studied acting, eventually landing on- and OffBroadway roles.

After “Little House,” which debuted in 1974, went off the air in 1983, MacGregor appeared in the 2014 short film “The Lottery,” but nothing else.
