Ex-Finest: I did help drug guy duck bust
A former NYPD detective pleaded guilty Friday to helping a drug dealer avoid investigators, federal prosecutors said.
Saed Rabah, a 20-year NYPD veteran, first crossed paths with the dealer in a 2014 drug bust, according to court papers. The dealer flipped, and Rabah became his handler, say court papers.
But the suspect — not identified in court papers — continued to deal drugs around Yonkers and got the attention of the Drug Enforcement Agency.
When DEA agents contacted Rabah, 46, in May 2016 asking for phone numbers the dealer used, Rabah intentionally gave a bad number, prosecutors said.
Rabah and the dealer had a “corrupt relationship,” the feds say.
Rabah brought bettors to the dealer’s illegal sports betting business, authorities said. He and the dealer traveled to Las Vegas together in July 2016. And when one of the dealer’s employees delivered drugs in a suspicious manner that would get the attention of cops, Rabah gave the dealer a heads-up, prosecutors said.
Rabah, of Brooklyn, retired from the NYPD in August 2016. He faces up to 20 years in prison for obstructing a narcotics investigation.
“As an NYPD detective, Saed Rabah swore to uphold the law – not to break it and help a known criminal continue trafficking drugs. Now this corrupt former officer faces serious prison time for his crimes,” said Manhattan U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Berman.
