Senior hurt in crash tied to race fiends
A 68-year-old man was critically hurt Sunday in a multi-car crash on the New England Thruway in the Bronx that might have involved a pair of streetracing cars, police said.
A 23-year-old man driving a white BMW coupe and a 31-year-old driving a gray BMW sedan sparked the crash around 7:10 p.m. as they sped north on the Thruway near Bartow Ave., in the Co-op City area, said cops.
The white BMW coupe rear-ended a Kia sedan.
Then the Kia sedan struck a Honda SUV, which in turn slammed into the BMW sedan, said cops.
Medics took the 68year-old Kia driver to Jacobi Medical Center in critical condition. Eight other people suffered minor injuries, and at least two of them went to area hospitals, authorities said.
Police took both BMW drivers into custody.
