OUR CITY, YOUR PAPER

-

No one covers the city like the Daily News. For nearly 100 years, New York’s Hometown Newspaper has been your eyes and ears — and your voice.

Do you have a story you think we should tell? Call us at 212-210-NEWS. This is your paper, and we are committed to covering the issues that matter to you. Here are some of our top stories from last week: Welcome to NYCHA: Housing and Urban Development bigwig Lynne Patton wanted to see what it’s like to live in a New York City Housing Authority building, and in her first week at the Patterson Houses in the Bronx, she got a taste of what residents deal with — a stuck elevator. But Patton did make a connection with Glady Sanchez and her family, and then took Frederick Douglass Houses Tenant Association President Carmen Quiñones to the White House to meet with President Trump.

Mean streets: New York is a great walking city, but not on these streets. A small fraction of the city’s roads — just 7% — are home to 50% of crashes that killed or seriously injured pedestrians, according to data released by the city.

Tears at Rikers: City Correction Officer Richard Lue was killed after a driver rearended his car on the Cross Bronx Expressway, sending him into a tractor-trailer. The 22-year-old was so beloved that not only did his fellow guards mourn him, but so did inmates on Rikers Island. In da club, and in da vest: The News was first to report an investigation into NYPD Deputy Inspector Emanuel Gonzalez for allegedly telling his cops to “shoot him on sight” if they saw rapper 50 Cent at a police function. Gonzalez said his order was a joke and not a real threat. Since then, Fitty has unleashed a social media blitz on the issue and even donned a bulletproof vest. Mom’s sacrifice: A pregnant Rockland County mom who was killed by a driver in a rage over being asked to put out his cigarette died a hero, throwing herself in the way of the car to save her children, her brother told The News.

Eeewww! President Trump touts his properties as high-end establishments, but The News learned that health inspectors found multiple infractions, including evidence of mice, in the kitchen at Trump Tower and “critical” violations at Trump Golf Links at Ferry Point in the Bronx. City is top dog again: After 32 years in St. Louis, the American Kennel Club Museum of the Dog is back in New York City. We took you inside the pooch palace around the corner from Grand Central Terminal.
