‘JUSTICE’ FOR RUTH

Push to name bldg. for her in native B’klyn

- BY THOMAS TRACY

Happy birthday, Ruth Bader Ginsburg — here’s a city building!

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams will be marking the U.S. Supreme Court justice’s 86th birthday Friday with a huge party as part of a push to have the Brooklyn Municipal Building named in her honor.

“This is definitely a 50 Cent ‘It’s your birthday’ moment,” Adams said. “[Ginsburg] has reached an iconic status equivalent to Serena Williams and Beyoncé’s fame.”

The borough will be honoring the Brooklyn native’s birthday at Borough Hall on Friday, complete with cake and a card guests will be asked to sign.

The documentary “RBG” about the justice will be shown as party guests join in a special “Rally for Ruth” to demand the city rename the municipal building in her honor.

To Adams, the judge — whose early legal battles against gender discrimination were depicted in last year’s dramatized biopic “On the Basis of Sex” — is an “icon of the women’s movement and a Brooklyn hero.”

“She is a symbol of strength, a cancer survivor who has fought for women’s rights her entire life,” said Adams. “We’ve talked about this and asked, ‘How do we honor such an icon?’ and it was simple — we make statues and name buildings after her.”

“History can’t just be history, it has to be our story with [the borough’s] diversity and ethnicity,” he explained.

Adams made his pitch to have the municipal building named after Ginsburg in September. The jurist was raised in Flatbush and graduated from James Madison High School. She celebrated her 25th anniversary on the high court in August.

At least 48,062 people have already signed a Change.org petition to have the building renamed. More than two dozen legislators have also joined the push.

But, so far, Mayor de Blasio — a Brooklyn resident and former councilman from the borough — has not given the measure his blessing, which is all that is needed to make it happen.

“This falls in line with when de Blasio named a building in honor of David Dinkins,” Adams said.

The Manhattan Municipal Building was named after the former mayor in 2015.

“This is an opportunity to name a building after someone who represents diversity in the borough she was raised in,” Adams said.

An email to City Hall was not immediately returned.

A Supreme Court spokeswoman said that Ginsburg is aware of Adams’ proposal and “is honored that her name was put forward.”
