Vid shows beat-cops lie: lawyer
Lawyers who released surveillance video of a Brooklyn arrest said cops lied about their confrontation last year with a deliveryman buying groceries for his boss at a Williamsburg bodega.
Cops had said they did not use force when they took Christopher Parham, 20, into custody on Sept. 15 at the store, but video shows them tackling him to the ground.
Officers had also said a pedestrian was forced to jump out of the way of Parham’s illegal scooter, but video shows otherwise.
Cops also said Parham created a public disturbance that caused a crowd to gather. The video meanwhile shows just a handful of pedestrians on the corner at Flushing Ave. and Humboldt St.
Parham’s public defender released video that shows three officers tackling Parham outside the store near boxes of fruit and produce. Three people stopped to watch as cops carted Parham off in cuffs.
According to Parham’s lawyer, the restaurant deliveryman suffered a severe concussion after he was beaten and Tased without warning.
“His boss sent him to the grocery store to pick up shrimp, onions & avocados,” tweeted Scott Hechinger, a lawyer with Brooklyn Defender Services. “Seconds after he walks into grocery store, he’s followed in by a plainclothed officer.”
A store employee told Parham someone was messing with his bike, and when he went outside and he was intercepted by the cops.
An NYPD spokeswoman said investigators determined no misconduct was committed.
