‘NATURAL’ DEATH

Stars announce end of long-running fantasy series

- BY GINA SALAMONE

It may be “Supernatural,” but it’s not eternal.

The long-running dark fantasy series will say goodbye after its 15th season.

Stars Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins broke the news in an emotional clip posted to Twitter Friday afternoon.

“We have some big news we wanted y’all to hear from us,” says Padalecki, who stars as demon-hunter Sam Winchester on The CW show.

Ackles, who plays Sam’s older brother Dean, chimed in, “We just told the crew that though we’re very, very excited about moving into our 15th season, it will be our last. Fifteen years of a show that has certainly changed my life.

“I know it’s changed these two guys’ lives,” Ackles added, referring to his co-stars. “And we just wanted you to hear it from us that though we’re excited about next year, it will be the finale.”

“Supernatural” debuted in September of 2005 on The WB before moving to The CW in 2006. Season 14 is currently airing and set to end on April 25.

“We’ve cried some tears and we’ll cry some more,” Padalecki said.

“But we’re going to save the emotion for next season,” Ackles added.

Collins, who plays the angel Castiel on the show, admitted the actors didn’t plan on getting choked-up. “We talked about this in advance,” he said. “We’re like, ‘Let’s not get emotional about it. Let’s just try to be cool.’” It didn’t work. “He’s hanging on for dear life,” Ackles said, pointing to Padalecki, who looked teary. “I know him.”

The series, which is the longest-running live-action fantasy show in the U.S., follows the Winchester brothers as they go after demons, ghosts and monsters. Jeffrey Dean Morgan, known to fans of “The Walking Dead” as villain Negan, has been a recurring character on “Supernatural” as the dad of Sam and Dean.

Collins had a message for the show’s loyal fans. “We love you guys and this family is not going anywhere even though the show will come to an end,” he said.
