POP STAR CHECKS INTO MENTAL HOSPITAL, REPORT SAYS
Britney Spears has checked into a psychiatric facility amid her father’s most recent health scare.
The Daily News has learned that Spears checked into a mental health facility last week and is planning to undergo a 30-day stay.
Without going into specifics, the 37-year-old singer indicated she planned to take time off to look after herself. Spears posted a placard on Instagram spelling out in big purple letters, “Fall in Love with Taking Care of Yourself, Mind, Body, Spirit.”
She captioned that graphic with a message to her 21.6 million followers Wednesday, telling them, “We all need to take a little ‘me time.’ ”
The singer “checked into a facility for all-encompassing wellness treatment,” according to a People report.
The Grammy-winner recently took a break from her Las Vegas residency to look after her 66-year-old father. She posted a heartfelt message in January explaining to her fans that her dad was hospitalized and nearly died.
“We are all so grateful that he came out of it alive, but he still has a long road ahead of him,” she wrote.
“I don’t even know where to start with this, because this is so tough for me to say,” Spears wrote on Jan. 4. “I will not be performing my new show, Domination. I’ve been looking forward to this show and seeing all of you this year, so doing this breaks my heart. However, it’s important to always put your family first… and that’s the decision I had to make.”
Spears has struggled with emotional issues in the past. She was famously photographed attacking a car with an umbrella during a rough patch following her 2007 divorce. The “Oops, I Did it Again” singer also shaved her head in front of paparazzi during that extended meltdown.
In January 2008, People reported that Spears had been admitted to a UCLA hospital on a 72-hour psychiatric hold. A friend of Spears said then that the pop star had made the decision to get help and went willingly. TMZ reported that her father established a conservatorship a short time later to protect Spears’ assets while she got her affairs in order. That plan was still intact as recently as 2015, according to the report.
Supermodel and Spears fan Heidi Klum was quick to support the singer Wednesday.
“YESSSSSSS,” Klum wrote on Spears’ Instagram page alongside a heart emoticon.
Gossip site The Blast reported Wednesday that Spears also has the full support of her model boyfriend Sam Asghari as she looks to get back on track.
The pair met while working together on her 2016 video for “Slumber Party.”
