4 more ID’d in vicious Brooklyn chase, slay

- BY TREVOR BOYER AND GRAHAM RAYMAN

Cops identified Wednesday four more suspects wanted for chasing a 21-year-old man through Brooklyn streets before shooting him to death in a chilling crime caught on video.

Three other suspects, meanwhile, were arraigned Wednesday.

Tyquan Eversley (inset below) was hunted down by 10 men as he ran from New Lots Ave. into the backyard of a house on Elton St. in East New York on March 19. He was shot dead by one of the men after he got tangled in barbed wire while climbing over a fence as he tried to escape his pursuers.

Four men are already in custody on murder, manslaughter and assault charges. On Wednesday, cops named four more — Donaven McDay, 29; Shacore Huff, 23; Rahmel Briggs, 22, and Rakiem Smith, 25 — as suspects.

None of those in custody are believed to be the gunman. Two other, unnamed suspects are still being sought.

Security video released by the NYPD this week shows the group chasing Eversley after they encountered him on New Lots Ave. and punched him in the face. At one point Eversley is seen hiding behind a parked SUV and then running away frantically when he’s spotted.

Police received a series of tips from the community that pointed to the suspects, but the motive for the killing remains unclear.

The four already in custody were identified as Michael Reid, 25; Alfred Crooks, 22; Frank Cook, 33, and Leroy Dunn, 35. Reid and Crooks were charged with murder, while Cook and Dunn were hit with manslaughter and gang assault charges.

At the arraignment, Crooks, Cook and Dunn were ordered held without bail. None of the men spoke in court.

“All three defendants acting in concert with the others caused the death of the deceased by shooting the deceased,” said prosecutor Wilfredo Cotto. Reid awaits arraignment. Adam Uris, a lawyer representing Dunn, acknowledged that his client appears on video, but questioned what his role was.

“While we acknowledge that the people allege that there is video surveillance which captures an incident, it is our understanding that at most this will show that my client was merely present at the time of this incident,” Uris said.

Added Crooks’ lawyer Lawrence Fredella, “While there is videotaped surveillance, with respect to both Mr. Crooks and Mr. Cook, this video is not clear-cut. Both of these men deny the allegations that were put forth, and they’re going to fight this case.”

A man who identified himself as Crooks’ father said only, “I don’t talk to no Daily News.”

Cook hid his face in the collar of his blue coat as photographers took pictures of him. Crooks wore a black tracksuit and has tiny dreadlocks. Dunn wore a black jacket, black pants, and blue shoes.

Outside court, Fredella said he wanted to see the Brooklyn district attorney’s copy of the video. “I don’t know about the clarity of the video,” he said. “So at this particular time I’m not so sure that what they’re saying is [true]. … It’s always black and white to them; to me there’s always gray in the middle.”

Crooks, Cook and Dunn are due back in court next Monday.
