Gifford says goodbye to ‘Today’ show

- BY JESSICA SCHLADEBECK

Kathie Lee Gifford bid a fond farewell to the “Today” show the same way she spent much of her time on the show: with a drink in her hand.

“I feel great, I do,” she told the crowd during Friday morning, after nearly 11 years on the popular show. “The last two weeks, since this crazy stuff began, I have no expectations. You want to bear it well. You want to honor the Lord with whatever you say and do, but you also want to have fun and remind people of why this show worked in the beginning: because we have fun and have a friendship and it’s real.”

Gifford’s final broadcast kicked off with a performance from Flo Rida, who sang “Kathie Lee’s House” — a riff on his hit, “My House.”

Kathie Lee and co-host Hoda Kotb (both inset) also enjoyed a champagne drink made especially for the occasion called the “Farewell Fizz” before awarding everyone in the audience a free four-day vacation with Carnival Cruise.

Gifford, 65, starred in a commercial for the cruise line in 1984.

John Cena made an appearance to host a round of Gifford-themed trivia, while Al Roker led everyone in a game of the “Masked Audience Member.” Some in the crowd concealed their faces with animal disguises, like on Fox’s the “Masked Singer,” while Roker provided hints about their identity.

Actor Ryan Eggold sported a chicken outfit, while Dean Cain showed up as a fox.

Barry Manilow also participated in the party, singing a duet of “Can’t Smile Without You” alongside Gifford.

Gifford, who announced her departure in December, told People leaving the show was proving to harder than she expected.

“I thought I’d stay here a year, and here it is 11 years later,” she said. “And in those 11 years, a lot of life has happened.”

Former First Daughter Jenna Bush Hager is set to step in as co-host alongside Kotb on April 8.
