PIZZA CAKE!

DOMINO’S DELIVERY GUY NABS PUNK CHASED BY COPS

- BY MIKEY LIGHT AND TONI REINHOLD

A Domino’s Pizza delivery man helped police nab a robbery suspect by chasing him down on his bike, and then sitting on him until police caught up.

Cops were on Manhattan’s Upper West Side last week looking for robbers who swiped a woman’s headphones. After about an hour they spotted one of the suspects running on W. 72nd St. toward Broadway and gave chase, the 20th Precinct said in a Twitter post on Friday.

An alert Domino’s Pizza delivery guy on a bicycle quickly sized up the situation and joined the pursuit, calling to the cops, “I’ll stop him, officers!”

The delivery man, Alou Bathily, 21, told the Daily News, “When I came back from a delivery, I saw a person running and policemen following him. I told myself, ‘I’m going to help those policemen to stop that person.”

Bathily, who hails from Mali, said he shouted to the cops as he peddled faster and gave chase. About a block and a half into it, he said he dropped his bike and jumped on the suspect, who was by then in the street.

“I hit the guy and he fell down,” Bathily said. “Then I threw him down and sat on him.”

Cops caught up and took the man into custody. Bathily said they thanked him and sent him on his way.

Bathily said he wasn’t afraid to chase the suspect, even though he had never done anything like it. He said he was inspired to help by action movies he had seen as a child. But, he added, he has no interest in a career in law enforcement. He said he came to the United States two months ago to learn English so he can become a businessman in Mali.

And even though his heroics have brought him recognition, Bathily said he just did what he thought was the right thing.

Police said that while the suspect, Lovell Ambrister, was running he pulled counterfeit $50 bills from his pocket and cast them to the wind. Cops said he had used the fake fifties to make small purchases at two stores and get real cash as change.

He was arrested by Sgt. William Rivera and Officers Jack Etter, Delilah Solis, Darnell Jones, and Bridget Fanning, the precinct said in a Facebook post.

The suspect has seven previous arrests including for robbery and grand larceny, cops said.

What would Bathily say to him? “Just to stop his life of crime.”
