Ma kills newborn boy
Dad then puts body in dumpster: prosecutor
A Jersey Shore teenager, after secretly delivering her son in the family bathroom, suffocated the infant with her bare hands before the dad tossed their baby’s body into an Asbury Park dumpster, authorities charged.
Cold-blooded killer Jada McClain, 18, who named the doomed child Legend, admitted pressing down with both hands on his tiny chest until the boy stopped breathing on the bed inside her Neptune home shortly after his 4 a.m. arrival on March 29, according to an affidavit from the Monmouth County prosecutor.
“She disclosed that the baby was breathing and that her intention was to stop her baby from breathing,” authorities charged.
Security video captured the father, identified as 19-year-old Quaimere Mohammed of Asbury Park, discarding a blue trash bag into an apartment complex garbage bin about 9:30 a.m. that day. Authorities charged the newborn was inside, wrapped in a blanket and stuffed inside the bag.
In a particularly unsettling detail, McClain sent photos to a friend of the “blue and purple” newborn, his lips dry and his eyes puffy, after snapping the shots in her bedroom, the affidavit alleged. She complained to the same friend about the amount of pain experienced delivering the child by herself while sitting on the toilet at her parents’ home, officials said.
The unidentified woman contacted Asbury Park police about their conversations, and McClain confessed after she was arrested Thursday, authorities said.
Just days earlier, the Neptune High School student allegedly spoke with the father about killing the child — and Mohammed reportedly made no effort to dissuade her.
“One option the two discussed was that she would kill the baby after the birth,” the affidavit charged. “Jada advised that Quaimere stated that ‘they have to do what’s best for them.’ ”
Mohammed, though not accused in his son’s death, was charged with desecrating human remains for tossing the dead infant in with the trash at the Washington Village Apartment complex — about a mile inland from the Asbury Park beach. McClain was charged with first-degree murder and desecrating human remains, and the callous couple remained behind bars Saturday at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution pending their initial court appearances, according to authorities.
According to the affidavit, the young couple spent about an hour together near the Atlantic Ocean after McClain picked up Mohammed in her Volkswagen Jetta with their dead son in the back seat. The pair spent another hour sitting in the car outside Mohammed’s home before disposing of the body, authorities said.
McClain called Mohammed’s cell phone about 6 a.m. to say she had delivered their son, and drove to meet him in Asbury Park.
The teens were dating last July when McClain discovered she was pregnant, with the mom-to-be hiding her condition from her parents, authorities said. She considered an abortion, but decided against the procedure because she wrongly believed that parental consent was needed.
The affidavit said that McClain told her friend how she was drinking, smoking marijuana and taking pills in an attempt to cause a miscarriage in the months before the birth.
Once the crying baby arrived, McClain said, she climbed into the shower with the newborn to clean them both off. Minutes later, she was killing the innocent child, officials charged.
