‘Endgame’ wows city superfans
Get ready to gasp, cheer, laugh — and maybe even cry. That’s the emotional roller coaster that attendees at an early screening of “Avengers: Endgame” in New York City experienced Tuesday as they watched the beloved Marvel superheroes attempt to overcome the odds and defeat the villainous Thanos. Who lives? Who dies? Who’s turned to dust? Do Iron Man and Captain America overcome their differences? People need to know! Viewers were animated and engaged throughout a 3-hour-and-2-minute showing that seemed to zoom by as action filled the screen. Even with that lengthy screening time, hardly any viewers left their seats at Tuesday’s showing. Toilet breaks be damned! The several hundred members of the press and other attendees at the AMC Lincoln Center on 68th St. were some of the lucky early viewers who got the chance to see a movie that some superfans were willing to spend up to $10,000 for tickets on the resale market. And boy, did it live up to the hype — and more. Viewers arrived more than an hour early for the 6 p.m. showing to ensure they got a good seat in the jam-packed theater. After the movie ended, many people stuck around and discussed what they’d just viewed. “Endgame” is the 22nd movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It comes 11 years after the franchise’s first installment, “Iron Man,” first wowed viewers on the big screen. The weeks leading up to “Endgame” have been filled with immense speculation and anticipation — and early viewers left satisfied after Tuesday’s showing. “Endgame” opens in theaters on Thursday.
