Robbery susp grabs Taser, zaps police

- BY THOMAS TRACY AND JOHN ANNESE

A suspected crook overpowered four cops trying to arrest him in Brooklyn, stealing a Taser from one of them and using it to jolt the other three, police said Tuesday.

The chaotic melee was caught on surveillance video outside a deli on Nostrand Ave. at Sterling Place in Crown Heights about 6:10 p.m. Sunday.

The officers recognized the wild-haired suspect from a wanted poster for five separate subway cell phone snatchings since February.

When they approached the suspect he ran into a deli, then pushed his way back outside.

The startling video shows the suspect, wearing an orange shirt, barrel out of the deli and try to push past the cops. One of the officers pulls out his Taser and zaps the suspect, to no effect.

The cops subdued the suspect by holding him against the metal security gate of a Boost Mobile store. But after they began striking him with their expandable batons, the suspect got back on his feet with an officer’s Taser he snatched now in his hand.

He set the weapon to “drive stun” mode and zapped three of the cops before running off. The four cops chased him, and cornered him a block away at New York Ave. and Sterling Place, where another cop fired a Taser into his back. But the crazed suspect yanked the prongs out and continued to struggle until the cops finally brought him down.

Medics took the suspect to Kings County Hospital. His name was not been released and charges against him were pending.

The officers struck by the Taser were not injured.
