Don gives nod to The Almighty

- BY DAVE GOLDINER

President Trump says he can always lean on the man upstairs.

Yup, you heard that right. The president asserted his faith in God helped him get through the dark days of attacks by Democrats and what he calls Robert Mueller’s “witch hunt” investigation.

“People say, ‘How do you get through that whole stuff? How do you go through those witch hunts and everything else?’” Trump said at a National Day of Prayer service.

He looked over to Vice President Pence who has been perhaps his main lieutenant in lining up support from Christian conservatives.

“We just do it, right?” Trump continued. “And we think about God.”

The president is not a regular churchgoer and gave little sign that he cared about God or religion until he started hunting for evangelical votes.

Despite his playboy past and admitted serial infidelity, Trump has managed to lock down the born-again Christian vote by delivering on promises to install rightwing judges and crack down on abortion.

Aside from abortion and judges, Trump has allowed religious nonprofits to make political contributions and set up a Justice Department task force on religious liberty.

He trumpeted those achievements at the prayer service and brought up Rabbi Yisroel Goldstein, who was wounded in the San Diego synagogue shooting, to showcase what he called his stand against anti-Semitism.

“The way we react to darkness is with light,” Goldstein, who was shot in the hand in the attack, told the White House gathering.
