Brit’s mom wants role at hearing

Maybe mother — or her lawyer — knows best.

Britney Spears’ mom wants her own legal firepower at the pop star’s critical conservatorship hearing set for Friday, saying it’s in the “Toxic” singer’s “best interest.”

Lawyers for Lynne Spears filed paperwork Tuesday asking for permission to have her Louisiana-based attorney represent her at the possible showdown.

The Friday hearing was abruptly placed on the calendar April 23, the same day TMZ.com reported the singer (photo) was finishing a 30-day stay at a mental health facility triggered by problems with her medications.

Lynne’s lawyers argue the rush to hold the hearing so quickly made it impossible for her to go through the regular process of admitting an out-of-state lawyer.

“Lynne Spears would like Gladstone N. Jones III to have the ability to attend and participate in said hearing,” the Tuesday filing states. “It is in the conservatee’s best interest to allow Lynne Spears to have a voice at the status hearing.”

The veteran pop superstar, 37, suffered a prolonged public meltdown more than a decade ago and has been the subject of a conservatorship managed by lawyers and her father, Jamie, since 2008.

She took to social media last month to address rumors she was held in the mental health facility against her will.

“Hi, guys. Just checking in with all of you who are concerned about me. All is well,” Spears said in an Instagram video posted April 23. “My family has been going through a lot of stress and anxiety lately, so I just needed time to deal. But don’t worry, I’ll be back very soon.

“I am trying to take a moment for myself, but everything that’s happening is just making it harder for me. Don’t believe everything you read and hear.”

According to TMZ, Lynne believes her daughter is in dire shape and needs more oversight than she’s receiving.
