It’s a Dem trap! So I won’t go to Ukraine: Rudy

- BY CHRIS SOMMERFELDT

Rudy Giuliani said Saturday he scrapped a controversial trip to Ukraine because he was about to be entrapped in a “lion’s den” set up by Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden and other enemies of President Trump.

The president’s lawyer portrayed the since-canceled trip as an innocent effort to push for an honest investigation into various supposed deals in the country that played a key role in special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia collusion investigation.

“I was walking into a lion’s den and [sources] told me I had to be very careful,” Giuliani told the Daily News, citing unnamed people with “a great deal of knowledge.”

The former mayor denied reports the journey was an effort to push a convoluted foreign smear involving the son of the Democratic front-runner — but conceded the Biden’s name might have come up.

Giuliani (photo) said he had gained knowledge of an investigation pursued by Ukrainian officials into a purported plot by the Democratic National Committee to obtain dirt on Trump in 2016.

“I was hoping to go there so I could share with them how important it is to keep that investigation going,” he said. “It was not going to have anything to do with Joe Biden, although Biden is probably part of that investigation.”

DNC officials have vehemently denied Giuliani’s unsubstantiated allegations.

Giuliani’s ham-handed about-face ended a minifuror over the planned trip that was first revealed Thursday.

The ex-Hizzoner initially defended the trip, on which he hoped to meet with newly elected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Giuliani previously said he planned to urge officials to reopen a probe into business payments made to Biden’s son, Hunter, by a Ukrainian oligarch. He also wanted to prod them to find out if Joe Biden pushed Ukraine to scrap an investigation into Brisma Holdings, a natural gas company linked to Hunter Biden.

Democrats were quick to lash out over Giuliani’s plans to travel to Ukraine and his political intentions.

“The president is openly asking a foreign government to investigate his political rival,” Sen. Chris Murphy (DConn.) tweeted Friday. “This is next level.”

Giuliani was quick to fire back, tweeting, “Explain to me why Biden shouldn’t be investigated.”
