Don believes kook Kim over Bolton

- BY CHRIS SOMMERFELDT

President Trump gave North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un the benefit of the doubt Monday and claimed his isolated Communist regime had not fired off missiles in violation of international treaties.

Trump’s stunning denial, delivered at a press conference in Tokyo, puts him at odds with his own national security adviser, John Bolton, and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. It also provides cover for Kim, whose brutal reign has resulted in countless human-rights abuses.

“My people think it could have been a violation. I view it differently,” Trump said, adding he was not “personally” perturbed by launches by North Korea this month.

Rather, he suggested Kim will come to his senses, and showered him with praise.

“He knows that with nuclear, that’s never going to happen, only bad can happen,” Trump said. “He understands. He is a very smart man.”

Bolton had just two days earlier said Kim’s regime had “no doubt” violated United Nations Security Council resolutions by launching the short-range missiles.

In the same press conference, Abe disagreed with Trump’s assessment.

“On May 9, North Korea launched short-range ballistic missiles, and that’s a violation of the UN Security Council’s resolution. As I have been saying, this is quite a regrettable act,” Abe said.

Trump (inset), who was in Japan for trade talks, has faced bipartisan scrutiny for trusting Kim since their cordial summit in Singapore last year.

Outraging Democrats, Trump even threw Kim a bone Monday by siding with the dictator’s branding of former Vice President Joe Biden as a “fool of low IQ.”

“Well, Kim Jong Un made a statement that Joe Biden is a low-IQ individual,” Trump said. “He probably is, based on his record. I think I agree with him on that.”
