Spurs legend Parker retires

- BY RAYMOND MORA

Tony Parker, a six-time All-Star and four-time champion, will retire from the NBA after 18 seasons.

“A lot of different stuff ultimately led me to this decision,” Parker said to

The Undefeated. “But, at the end of the day, I was like, if I can't be Tony Parker anymore and I can't play for a championship, I don't want to play basketball anymore.”

Under Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, Parker was part of one of the greatest trios in NBA history with Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili. They won four titles together in San Antonio. During that run, Parker also won Finals MVP in 2007 against the Cleveland Cavaliers. The trio's combined 701 regular-season and playoff wins is the most of any three-teammate group in league history.

Parker said he could play two more seasons, but felt it was time to walk way from the gamel. Parker played his last game for the Charlotte Hornets off the bench in a 93-75 loss to the Miami Heat on March 17.

PELICANS HIRE WNBA’S CASH

New Orleans Pelicans basketball operations chief David Griffin says the club has hired former WNBA and U.S. national team player Swin Cash to serve in an executive role.

Griffin, who announced the hiring Monday, says Cash will be vice president of basketball operations and team development.

Griffin says the Pelicans value Cash's experience as a winner on many levels, her reputation for leadership, and her recent experience as a WNBA executive with the New York Liberty.
