MCCOWN JETS TO ESPN GIG

-

Jets quarterback Josh McCown wrote in The Players’ Tribune Monday that he is retiring from the NFL after 16 seasons that included stints with 10 teams. ESPN said later Monday it had hired him as an NFL analyst.

McCown was often considered a “bridge” quarterback, and his career record as a starter was only 23-53. But his career was about more than numbers.

“I guess it just goes to show that you don’t always get to choose your own path,” McCown wrote. “But looking back, I’m proud of how my career has gone. I don’t shy away from the journeyman label. I embrace it, full force.

“Because it’s been one heck of a journey.”

McCown played the last two seasons with the Jets, serving as the starter in 2017 and as a veteran backup to rookie Sam Darnold last year.

ONE-YEAR SENTENCE IN PAPI SHOOTING

The documents also state that Perez sold the cellphone allegedly used to plan the attack to a woman for $180 a day after the June 9 shooting. Authorities said he wanted to get rid of the evidence.

Authorities also say they are closing in on the mastermind and motive behind the shooting.

RECORD RATINGS FOR U.S. WOMEN

The U.S.’s 3-0 victory over Chile set a record for the most-watched group-stage Women’s World Cup match on U.S. English-language television.

Fox drew 5,324,000 viewers for Sunday’s game, topping 4,492,000 for the Americans’ 0-0 group-stage draw against Sweden in 2015. The game was the most-watched English-language soccer telecast in the country since last year’s men’s World Cup final.
