Don warns pal Puty: Don’t mess with elex

- BY JESSICA SCHLADEBECK AND DAVE GOLDINER

Fake scold.

President Trump grinned at Vladimir Putin and wagged a finger, pretending to warn the Russian president to butt out of America’s 2020 election.

Trump performed on cue after a reporter Friday asked whether he intended to tell Russians not to meddle in the upcoming presidential race.

Nodding in agreement, Trump turned to the former KGB agent.

“Don’t meddle in the election, president,” he said with a wag of his finger, emphasizing the just-joking rebuke. “Don’t meddle in the election.”

The episode underlined Trump’s treatment of Russia’s interference in U.S. elections as no big deal — even as former special counsel Robert Mueller called Russia’s “multiple, systematic efforts to interfere in our election” in 2016 something that “deserves the attention of every y American.”

But Trump continues to call the meddling “fake news.”

He made his derisive remarks about journalists on the anniversary of the murder of five journalists at the CapitalGazette in Maryland. The Committee to Protect Journalists says 42 members of the profession have been killed in Russia since 2000.

Putin chuckled when he heard the translated remarks, which came as the leaders appeared before cameras ahead of their sitdown at the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan.

The chummy meeting was two weeks after Trump said he’d take foreign dirt on 2020 rivals, even though that violates federal law.

Even Secretary of State Mike Pompeo (above l.) — who is supposed to be taking a tough line on foreign interference — smiled as Trump got chummy with Putin.

As he has in the past, Trump showcased his personal rapport with Putin, apparently oblivious — or defiant — to the signal it might send.

Trump told reporters Friday it’s “a great honor to be with President Putin” and that they intended to discuss a range of topics, including “a 21st century model of arms control” and their nations’ opposing views on Iran, Syria, Venezuela and Ukraine.

“We have a very, very good relationship and we look forward to spending some good time together,” he said.

Their meeting marks the first time Trump and Putin have appeared together since a news conference in Helsinki nearly a year ago. It’s also the first time they’ve been side by side since Mueller issued a report on Russian efforts to interfere in the 2016 election.

In another surprise diplomatic move, Trump invited North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un to a meeting in the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea. “I would meet him at the Border/DMZ just to shake his hand and say Hello(?)!” Trump tweeted late Friday.

Trump is due in South Korea on Saturday. Neither North nor South Korean officials had any comment about the possibility of such a meeting.
