Manhattan: I would like to thank you for your newspaper’s coverage of the disgusting conditions in NYCHA. I think this is the only way the city takes action. At the Smith Houses in Manhattan, the elevators break down at least two to three times a day. The fire department comes almost every day and the last time they had to remove the elevator door. There are two elevators, and they are constantly out of order. The elevators jump floors, get stuck, doors won’t close. Elderly people have to sit in the hot sun while they repair the elevators, only for the elevators to get stuck later on (most of the time on the same day).

Tenants feel that there is something permanently wrong with these elevators that NYCHA is not fixing. Why else would they break down every single day? Tenants have complained to management but nothing has been done. These elevators have been operating like this for years. They are scared that what happened to the Lower East Side man who was crushed by a falling elevator might happen there.

Please continue to expose NYCHA and its continuing mismanagement, tenants feel invisible and ignored. I have a friend living in this building under these horrible conditions and it breaks my heart every single day. Rosanna Brown

Revival of a curse

Shaftsbury, Vt.: The mighty curse is now in reverse. The Curse of the Bambino is now on the New York Yankees. The Yanks are worried about the Red Sox and they should be. Winners of last year’s World Series, the Sox are now flat and no real threat to anyone. But, the curse is still out there. Boonie is worried that the Sox will start a landslide of losses for his Evil Empire Yanks. This nagging worry is eating him alive and his mentor, “Cash,” is throwing cold water on it. This just makes the new curse worse. It happened before and it will happen again. The Sox bedeviled the Yanks and came from three games down to win the pennant and destroyed the Yanks since that time. Start sweating Boonie! You’re finished as Yankee manager.

Staten Island: To Voicer Julia Lutch: You speak of dazzling ignorance in reference to AOC’s comparing immigrant detention centers (or Trump Camps) to concentration camps. People are willingly risking their lives to get into the U.S.A., not get into the camps. “Give me your poor, yearning to breathe free.”

Time travel

Morris Plains, N.J.: I was delighted to read the June 26

Voice of the People page. I’m sure many millions of letters have been sent to you. These spanned from 1919 to 2016. As I read them, I realized the direct correlation to current topics. There’s the POTUS with fake news complaints, then and now. New paper in town as other publications close down. Bad grammar and spelling then, and spell check still can’t prevent it. Horses impeding traffic, on bridle path or Central Park. Complaints about Soviet Union (Russian interference). Riots after Dr. King’s assassination, and now peaceful demonstration. Trips to the Moon. Mars is next. Nixon impeachment. Calls for Trump impeachment. Support for death penalty versus decriminalizing marijuana. Deterioration of subways and homeless riders. 9/11 united us, but health care for first responders and others is under scrutiny. Police killings and Black Lives Matter. Teaching young black men not to resist or face death. And finally, bashing presidents, past, present and future. The more things change, the more they remain the same.

Voicer Donald Trump

Plainview, L.I.: Donald Trump’s 1997 Voicer letter about having been P.S. 70’s Principal For A Day mentioned “screaming, shouting…emanating from the children.” Sounds a little like the young children now caged down by the border! (Having made my point, I admit that my three-dot ellipsis purposely omitted his words “laughing and pure joy.”)

So insulting

Brooklyn: One can only imagine the outrage, and rightfully so, directed at a waitress in a restaurant who may have spat upon Malia Obama. The server’s name would be plastered on the front page of the New York Times and the Washington Post, and she would be dutifully blackballed from her profession. President Trump’s son is subject to such vile degradation in Chicago (a Democratic stronghold) and not a word from the left condemning such uncivil behavior. No surprise!

Slackers

George F. McIntyre

Garwood, N.J.: If I had spent two years blaming my faults on my predecessors, my boss would have laughed me out the front door. So why must we listen to our president constantly blame Barack Obama for everything Trump has screwed up or failed to deliver on? Immigration, health care, North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, trade deals, climate change, and the list never ends. Trump and the GOP controlled the House, Senate, and White House for 2017 and 2018, and none of the above issues were handled. So, quit blaming Obama and do your damn jobs!

John Deichmeister

Oh say can you see!

Staten Island: To Voicer Karen Jehlen: We fly our beautiful flag because we are proud to be American and honor those who fought and died for our freedom. It has nothing to do with who lives in the White House.

Time is money

Brooklyn: The MTA claims that they are losing millions of dollars from fare evasion. I wonder how much money us riders lose every time they make us late to work. I can’t count the times I’ve been docked for being late because of the lousy service of the MTA, and I always pay my fare.

Staten Island: I am appalled at the level of voter indifference on primary day throughout the five boroughs, most recently in Queens for the primary race for Democratic nominee for district LUIZ C. RIBEIRO FOR NEW YORK DAILY NEWS attorney. Many people often wondered how some of the present whack-a-doos got into office in the first place. Well, I just laid out why. Here is the solution to this problem: Everyone, let’s start getting out and knocking on doors and getting your neighbors out to vote on all primary and general election days. Which borough is first?

Loud and clear

Robert McKenna

Empathetic citizen

Hardyston, N.J.: To Voicer Fred Dollonsky: You, sir, are a heartless individual and an obvious Trump supporter. I am no fan of Joe Guidice, however I am a compassionate person. Yes, he messed up, committed a crime and did his time. He is still a family man with four young girls who need their father. Would you be so quick to deport if this had been your family? I wonder? These cases need to be looked at individually. He didn’t kill anyone. Who benefits? Kathy Ricker

Manalapan, N.J.: All are welcome in “our” U.S.A., you idiots who are deporting immigrants. You will rot in hell and you will have company. His name is Hitler. Marion Gargano
