A Bronx boy, senselessly stabbed in the back two days after his 5th birthday, was awaiting possible surgery Monday as his stunned family gathered around the adored only child with a heart-melting smile.

Kase Snowe’s greatgrandmother, Barbara Lawhorn, 69, of Harlem, said the child’s mom, Keiara Lawhorn, is devastated by the inexplicable attack early Sunday as she and her son were walking on Daly Ave. near E. 180th St. in Fordham Heights.

Suddenly, the little boy, toting a toy airplane, was knifed in the back by a suspect identified by cops as Jesus Felix, 26, who was collared at his home three blocks away after one of his relatives saw him rinsing off a knife and called police.

“He (Kase) wanted some juice, but Keiara didn’t have any in the house,” Barbara Lawhorn said. “She couldn’t leave him in the house by himself. So she took him with her to get some juice and then that happened.

“This is her only child,” the great-grandmother continued. “I have no idea what happened. I know she panicked and snatched him and ran, screaming. I would’ve done the same thing. It’s so terrible. And there are so many nuts out on the street, you can only be so careful.

“He calls me Gigi. That’s my baby — he’s my only great-grandchild” she added. “He’s so sweet.”

She said her own daughter — Kase’s grandmother, who asked that her name not be made public — and Keiara, 30, have barely left the little boy’s side in the pediatric unit at Jacobi Medical Center since the horrifying attack.

On Monday, the family anxiously awaited a medical decision on whether surgery for his wounded kidney and a blood transfusion would be needed.

Little Kase graduated from his school Wednesday and celebrated his birthday on Friday.

“They took them out to Legoland with his cousins, they had a beautiful day,” she told the Daily News. “Then they all came back to my daughter’s mother-inlaw‘s party in Harlem. It was so beautiful. Then they stayed at my house for the night. They went home to the Bronx Saturday afternoon.”

Now the family must watch and wait.

“I love him so dearly,” Barbara Lawhorn said. “I wish there was something we could do to make sure that he doesn’t have to have surgery. But it’s all in God’s hands.”

Felix remains hospitalized at St. Barnabas Hospital for a psychological evaluation and was awaiting arraignment on charges of assault, acting in a manner injurious to a child and possession of a weapon.

“They’ve never seen that guy,” Barbara Lawhorn said of the suspect. “They don’t know who he is. Only a crazy person would do something like that … I appreciate that family member that saw him and called the police to get him because there had to be a reason why he was cleaning the knife.”
