AOC ‘bright’ & ‘brilliant’ but too far left: Biden

- BY DAVE GOLDINER

Joe Biden praised Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as a “brilliant, bright woman.”

But the Democratic frontrunner also slighted the progressive freshman congresswoman in a CNN interview as an example of the wrong path for the party to take as it aims to grab back the White House and Congress.

Biden argued that Democrats swept to a 40-seat landslide in the House of Representatives in 2018 by pitching moderate policy stands like those he is promoting in the presidential primary battle.

“[Ocasio-Cortez] won a primary. In the general election fights, who won?” Biden asked in a cable news interview. “Mainstream Democrats who are very progressive on social issues and very strong on education and healthcare”

The ex-vice president’s claim about what works with voters is not 100% true. OcasioCortez trounced longtime

Rep. Joe Crowley in a Democratic primary, then went on to sweep a general election against token Republican opposition in the deep blue Queens district.

Some centrist Democrats did knock off Republicans by wooing moderates in more conservative-leaning districts.

But Ocasio-Cortez (photo) and her supporters say Democrats can also win by lighting a fire under voters.

Biden calls himself is a “center-left” candidate and pushes back against the term “moderate.” He defended his health care plan as a pragmatic approach like President Obama’s plan and insisted it would help more Americans than the Medicare for all that Ocasio-Cortez and other progressives are pushing.

“I have a plan how to do that that’s rational, that will cost a hell of a lot less and that will work,” he said.
