Kamala has fund-raising woes, only nets $12M
Sen. Kamala Harris raised $12 million for her presidential campaign in the second quarter, an anemic number that showed her lagging well behind other top-tier Democratic rivals.
The California senator, (photo) who raised about the same amount in the first quarter, announced she received donations from more than 279,000 individuals, who donated an average of $39.
Despite the so-so report, Harris’ campaign claims she made big fund-raising gains in the days after her impressive performance at the first Democratic debate last month.
But for the entire three month period, she trails frontrunner Joe Biden who raised $21 million. Pete Buttigieg appears to be winning the money race at the moment, scooping an impressive $24 million in the second quarter even as he struggles in polls to compete with the leading candidate.
Sen. Bernie Sanders raised $18 million, about the same as he got in the first quarter.
Candidates are facing a July 15 deadline to disclose their Q2 fund-raising totals.
Mayor de Blasio’s campaign has said it won’t tell the public how much they raised until then. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), who is also struggling to gain traction, hasn’t responded to questions about her fund-raising.
Democrats are battling generally less than impressive fund-raising as they prepare to fight President Trump in 2020.
Republicans raised a whopping $105 million for Trump’s reelection in Q2, dwarfing all of the Democratic hopefuls.
