Man crashes driving shot pal to ER

- BY KERRY BURKE AND JOHN ANNESE

A frantic motorist who stepped on the gas as he tried to save a friend with a gunshot wound crashed his car two blocks away from a Brooklyn emergency room Monday night.

The driver and his 31-year-old passenger were sitting in a Lincoln Town Car on Union St. and Utica Ave. in Crown Heights when an attacker blasted eight or nine bullets at them just after 6:15 p.m., police sources said.

With his passenger gravely wounded, the driver floored it more than a mile toward Kings County Hospital.

“He was beating the lights down Brooklyn Ave. with his friend who was shot,” said a man who gave his name as Cecil, 50, who was driving on Midwood St. and witnessed the crash.

But just before the Lincoln reached the emergency room, it slammed into a Nissan Altima on the corner of Brooklyn Ave. and Midwood St.

The impact ripped the front off the Lincoln.

“A woman was trailing behind them and she jumped out screaming,” said Cecil.

“The driver got out. All he was worried about was his friend. He was holding his head and screaming for his friend,” said Cecil.

The passenger was slumped over in his seat, covered in blood, Cecil said.

Medics rushed the wounded man the rest of the way to the hospital. His wounds were lifethreatening, police said.

The Altima went up on the sidewalk and into the corner of a wall, caving in its passenger side.

Both drivers were hurt in the crash, police sources said.

Cops have not yet made an arrest in the shooting.
