70 patrol workers probed

- BY CATHY BURKE

Seventy Border Patrol employees are under investigation in the wake of the startling exposure of a secret Facebook group that joked about migrant deaths and posted sexist memes.

Those under the microscope include 62 current and eight former Border Patrol employees, most of whom posted messages on the secret “I’m 10-15” group, Customs and Border Protection officials announced Monday.

According to The Associated Press, the posts included messages questioning the authenticity of the heartbreaking image of a migrant father and his baby daughter dead on the banks of the Rio Grande.

Others showed crude, doctored images of freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (DBronx, Queens) supposedly appearing to perform a sex act on President Trump. Still others refer to Ocasio-Cortez and fellow Democratic Rep. Veronica Escobar of Texas as “ho’s,” and one member encouraged agents to throw a “burrito at these b——-s,” the AP reported.

In another gruesome chain, news about a 16-year-old Guatemalan migrant who died in Border Patrol custody in May triggered one response that observed, “If he dies, he dies.”

ProPublica, which broke the story about the secret group July 1, said it got screenshots of discussions and “was able to link the participants in those online conversations to apparently legitimate Facebook profiles belonging to Border Patrol agents.”

CBP officials were outraged, but one reportedly might have been a member. Border Patrol Chief Carla Provost condemned the posts, but she may have also been a member at one point, Intercept reported.
