Bronx: I applied for NYCHA over 10 years ago. I finally got a response and I was told that I was denied because, apparently, I make “too much money.” All while not being able to afford other apartments. I, a person who is working hard to find an affordable place to live, am rejected at every turn. Be it my credit score, or that I make too much, or too little. And when I do find something that I qualify for, I have to come up with an astronomical amount of money and it becomes out of my reach, despite my ability to afford the monthly rent.

I was not denied NYCHA because of a criminal background or my inability to pay the rent. I was denied because I can pay it and very well might be an upstanding resident! I make $48k a year, and, because I am a single woman with no kids, that is seen as a lot of money. Unfortunately, pre-tax income is what is evaluated. I take home much less than that. Not to mention the cost of living.

It seems like no one is concerned about the people who fall in the middle. I went out of my way to work hard, to wait to have kids, to stay out of jail, just to be told I am not even worth having a place to live that I can afford. I told myself that I would not cry while writing this email but it hurts. I just want to have a home! Working people without kids deserve assistance too. Precious Jones

Racism, period

San Francisco: If you are a person, any person, who: says racist things, does racist things and defends racist things, then you are a racist. Trump’s racism has now been laid bare for all the world to see. He justifies it by saying that “many people” agree with him. “Many people” agreed with Hitler. “Many people” agreed with Stalin. Wrong is wrong no matter how many people agree with it. I believe that many more people disagree with him. I guess we will find out soon enough. Jimmy Layton

Translation

Oakland, N.J.: Here is what Trump meant to say: If you’re black and you don’t like it here in America, go back to Africa. How can anyone in their right mind support this piece of trash? Bob Shwalb

Magic trick

Whitestone: Donnie Drumpf: it’s not the country they/we hate, it’s you. You are a true mental midget. Please just disappear. Robin Mazzia

Real citizen

Fresh Meadows: Mr. President, many years ago my father came to this country from Brazil. Unlike you and I who were born here and were automatically given citizenship,

he studied, applied, and earned it, as many have done before and are doing now. He appreciated the right that we have to express our opinions on the good and bad of this nation. If you told him to go back to his country, he would have responded, “I am already in my country.”

Black out Blaz

Massapequa, L.I.: I don’t know why everyone, including the Daily News, made such a big deal about Mayor de Blasio not being in the city when the lights went out last Saturday evening. Just look at his policies. The man has been in the dark since January 2014. Tom Ascher

Bad argument

Forest Hills: To Voicer Wanda Lucci: Your question about whether we would miss someone near and dear to us if they had been aborted is ridiculous because we never would have known them in the first place. Linda Sperling

Too little, too late

Bradley Beach, N.J.: Regarding the closing of Rikers Island and Voicer B. Colby Hamilton’s comments: As a retired NYPD detective, I remember when we had houses of detention in each borough. The system worked well and the Correction Department did a great job, especially in the Bronx House of “D.” We should have upgraded these facilities. That would have eased the strain on Rikers Island.

Patrick Freeman

Confused in Cambria Heights

Cambria Heights: In response to Voicer Joseph V. Camperchio: Please, please, please clarify! You are not equating the recent rash of police suicides, with the discontinuance of stop and frisk! Unless I misread or misunderstood your letter, I’m scratching my head trying to figure out the connection! I absolutely agree with you that something drastic needs to be done about the unbridled lawlessness that seems to be pervasive, but stop and frisk is not the answer. Terri Gilbert

Legal gripes

Astoria: The whining about the nixing of “civil rights” charges against Officer Daniel Pantaleo has nothing to do with justice. He did nothing wrong. “Civil rights” prosecutions are themselves a crock. They exist as de facto double jeopardy to give prosecutors a second bite. Brad Morris

Money talks

Riverhead, L.I.: If New York State and Gov. Cuomo are so dead set against smoking as they claim, why is the state just raising the age of being able to buy cigarettes to 21 instead of banning all sales of all tobacco and tobacco related products? The reason is because there are many multi-millions of dollars in taxes that the state would lose, which once again shows that money is still more important then health.

Thomas W. Smith

Disastrous

Little Ferry, N.J.: Voicer David Fisher: If AOC and her pals bring you “honor, integrity, values and humanity,” then there is little I can say except none of us will be “lucky” when these “firebrands” are running the country.

Thomas Rogan

Steadfast

Brooklyn: Voicer M. Guillermo takes issue with my “love of the English language” and suggests that I look up the difference between translator and interpreter. Newflash! I do know the difference between both! The translator translates orally, while the interpreter interprets written text. The synonym of interpreter is translator and the synonym of translator is interpreter. I stick by my original comments. In the time that he’s resided here in the U.S., why LUIZ C. RIBEIRO FOR NEW YORK DAILY NEWS hasn’t Cai Shuang Chen taken the time to learn to speak English?

Thank you note

Manhattan: NY1 executives can’t be this dumb. Or can they? Their decision to not allow Roma Torre, one of the best journalists in New York, to cover the U.S. women’s soccer parade, was just plain boneheaded. It feeds right into the premise of the lawsuit against them: that they treat older women disrespectfully. The lawyer for the women should send these clowns a fruit basket. They couldn’t possibly have helped him prove the case better than this.

The 12

Cecilia Rivera McCarthy Hanger

Staten Island: In response to Voicer Virgilio Carballo: The 12 representatives who voted against the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund are the following: Mo Brooks (AL), Paul Gosar (AZ), Andy Biggs (AZ), Ken Buck (CO), Jody Hice (GA), Thomas Massie (KY), Andy Harris (MD), Justin Amash (MI), Ralph Norman (SC), John Rose (TN), Jodey Arrington (TX), Michael Cloud (TX). All are Republicans, except for Amash, who is an independent.
