Search underway for missing Long Island man

-

A desperate search is underway for a Long Island man who vanished in his SUV 10 days ago after drinks with friends.

Limo driver Thomas Kelsey, 45, had drinks with two pals July 7 at the Katch at Venetian Shores in Lyndenhurst and then drove off in his cherry red Yukon XL about 10 p.m., cops said.

Kelsey, who lives in Centereach, has not been heard from since, according to the Suffolk County Police Department. Cops conducted searches off the coastline using a helicopter and there have been volunteer searches of nearby woods, a canal, train stations and elsewhere.

“There’s video of him leaving the parking lot but apparently no other video of the vehicle,” said Kelsey’s friend James Taylor, who was one of the people the missing man had drinks with.

Taylor said Kelsey (inset) showed no signs of depression or stress. “He bought us drinks that night,” he said.

Kelsey was reported missing at 1:30 a.m. on July 9.

A Suffolk County police spokeswoman said the search has thus far not yielded Kelsey or his gaudily colored car. “You can’t hide a cherry red Yukon XL,” Taylor said. “How does something like that just disappear with no traces? There’s no video surveillance. Numerous social media posts and nobody has seen that truck. How could you miss it? The left tail light is not working.”

Taylor said Kelsey’s truck was outfitted with the OnStar navigation system. Officials with that company tried to locate the truck but could not, Taylor said, suggesting the vehicle has lost power or is in an enclosure like a garage.

Anyone with information is asked to call Suffolk police at (631) 8548652.
