A heartbroken mother whose 18-month-old daughter died after falling out of a cruise ship’s window this month says it takes her 30 seconds every morning to remember the tragedy.

“The first 30 seconds of the day, I don’t remember what happened,” Kimberly Wiegand said during an emotional interview that aired Monday on NBC’s “Today” show.

“And then it comes back, and I relive what happened.”

Chloe Wiegand (photo) fell 11 stories to her death after her grandfather, Sam, placed the toddler on a rail near the window on a Royal Caribbean cruise ship, not realizing it was open, her family’s lawyer has said.

q tions,” Kimberly told Savannah Guthrie during the “Today” interview. “Primarily, why is there an open window in the kids play area, 11 stories off the ground?”

Their attorney, Michael Winkleman, has contended the accident was not a case of negligence by the grandfather.

Kimberly said Chloe’s grandfather would never put

g . band says Sam has been devastated by the accident.

“You can barely look at him without him crying,” Al Wiegand said on “Today.” “She was his best friend.”

Kimberly said she didn’t even see the window initially after being told her daughter had died.

“I ran over there, and I looked over,” she recalled. “And it wasn’t water down there, it was concrete. It was just, honestly, to lose our baby this way, is just unfathomable.”

The Indiana family says they blame the cruise ship company for their daughter’s death and believe it should be held responsible.

Royal Caribbean International said in a statement earlier this month that it is “deeply saddened” by the toddler’s death.

“We’ve made our Care Team available to assist the family in any way possible,” it said. “Out of respect for their privacy, we do not plan to comment further on the incident.”

Kimberly says she knows her daughter was “destined to do such great things.”

“But even in her short life, I truly believe she changed so many lives,” Kimberly said.
