Feels ‘much better’

still weeks away from returning and is now behind Luis Severino’s rehab pace.

“I misspoke on that. He’ll probably be after Sevy. When that is, is probably more in the next couple of weeks,” Boone said. “Sevy is just a little bit ahead, because he went through a longer strengthening period. He was building up when we shut Dellin down. They are on a similar path, it looks like, but I would say Sevy hits the mound before Dellin.”

Both Severino and Betances are recovering from shoulder injuries in spring training that somehow turned into lat injuries.

GARDY PARTY IN THE BRONX?

Outfielder Brett Gardner could be back as soon as Friday night for the Yankees’ four games in three days against the Red Sox at the Stadium. He went on the IL Thursday, back-dated to Monday, with right knee inflammation. He had a cortisone shot and is responding well.

“Friday is the first day he’s eligible, I believe. So I would say that’s possible,” Boone said.

WAIT AND SEE ON SANCHEZ

Catcher Gary Sanchez, who went on the IL Wednesday with groin strain, is feeling better, but there is no timeline for his return.

“He’s at home. We’ll get a feel for that when we get home,” Boone said. “I know from the reports last night, he was feeling better, felt better all his strength tests were really good, so we’re pretty encouraged by it.”

WHY WADE?

When the Yankees placed CC Sabathia on the injured list Sunday, they recalled utility infielder Tyler Wade instead of adding another pitcher to the roster. It gives them insurance after Gio Urshela rolled his ankle in Saturday’s game and with LeMahieu currently nursing a groin strain.

Urshela is fine and in the starting lineup for Sunday’s game, but Wade’s versatility made sense in this situation.

“I just felt like with Wade he gives us all kinds of flexibility,” Boone said. “We can put him in the outfield as well as the infield. The speed. Just the versatility he provides.”
