Eight hurt as car hits school bus in Brooklyn

-

A speeding driver was drunk when he crashed into a parked construction vehicle in Brooklyn, killing his passenger, authorities said.

Anthony Wallace, 31, was charged Thursday with drunk driving and vehicular manslaughter.

Wallace was allegedly speeding drunk in his red minivan down Atlantic Ave. under the elevated subway tracks in East New York when he veered onto the service road near Georgia Ave. about 5:10 a.m. Wednesday, cops said. He slammed into the back of a parked unoccupied backhoe.

The front of the minivan caved in upon impact. First responders had to tear the roof off the minivan to get to the two men inside. The backhoe lost a rear tire in the crash.

Passenger Tyrone “Snuggs” Scott, 32, of Bedford-Stuyvesant, suffered massive injuries and was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital, where he died.

“He was a good kid. I helped raise him,” Scott’s weeping stepfather, Frederick Williams, told the Daily News Wednesday. “He was like my son.”

Wallace, who lives in Williamsburg about a mile from the victim’s home, suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries. His arraignment is pending as he recuperates at Brookdale University Hospital, officials said.

Wallace, a father of two according to neighbors, has an extensive criminal history with more than 20 arrests, most recently for assault in Brooklyn in March 2018, sources said.

Neighbor Susan Robles said Wallace and Scott were pals.

“They both weren’t troublemakers,” Robles said. “They were nice people. They hung around a lot in the neighborhood.” One person was seriously hurt and seven others suffered minor injuries when a car smacked into a yellow school bus in Brooklyn on Thursday morning, officials said.

The scary crash took place on Avenue T near Coyle St. in Marine Park about 8:50 a.m., the Fire Department said.

The most seriously hurt victim suffered non-life threatening injuries, said the FDNY.

Four of the injured were children between three and five years old, the Fire Department said. The rest were adults.

It was unclear whether the most seriously hurt victim was a child or an adult.
