Don tweet mocks Cummings break-in
But sez he didn’t mean be a ‘wise guy’
President Trump appeared to jeer at Elijah Cummings on Friday over a break-in at the congressman’s Baltimore home, prompting a call from some of the president’s own advisers to knock it off.
Trump, who’s launched a string of racially fueled social-media attacks against Cummings over the past week, thumbed out a tweet announcing “really bad news!”
“The Baltimore house of Elijah E. Cummings was robbed. Too bad!” Trump posted. the
The president later told reporters he didn’t intend to send a “wise-guy tweet.”
“The tweet itself was really just a repeat of what I heard over the news,” he said.
But Nikki Haley, a staunch Trump supporter who served as his ambassador to the United Nations until this past October, read between the lines.
“This is so unnecessary,” she tweeted at Trump.
Meanwhile, Cummings (D-Md.) shared details about the attempted burglary at his home last Saturday morning.
“I was notified of the intrusion by my security system, and I scared the intruder away by yelling before the person gained entry into the residential portion of the house,” Cummings said in a statement to the Daily News. “I thank the Baltimore Police Department for their response and ask that all further inquiries be directed to them.”
Baltimore cops continue to investigate the break-in.
A spokesman for Cummings declined to offer a response to Trump’s tweet.
Trump’s latest missive comes on the heels of a relentless social media tirade attacking Cummings, claiming he’s to blame for his congressional district being a “disgusting” and “rodent infested mess” where “no human being would want to live.”
Cummings’ Baltimorespanning district is majority African-American.
