DAVE TO WED HIS ANGEL Ex-gov to tie knot with Sliwa’s former wife
Ex-Gov. David Paterson will wed Mary Sliwa, the exwife of Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa, at a Manhattan ceremony packed with political power brokers.
Former Mayor David Dinkins will perform the ceremony Saturday before 200 guests at the Water Club, which overlooks the East River.
Among the boldface names attending will be Rabbi Joseph Postasnik, executive vice president of the New York Board of Rabbis and a radio host, who is expected to give a toast.
Supermarket magnate, radio host and sometime Republican political candidate John Catsimatidis and his wife Margo are also on the guest list.
Paterson — the state’s first African-American governor — popped the question to Mary Sliwa at his 65th birthday party, which Catsimatidis threw for him in May at the New York Athletic Club.
Sliwa immediately said yes.
The Daily News broke the story in March 2015 of the fledgling relationship between the two love birds, who both work for Moldaver Paterson & Lee Group of the Stifel Investment Services, a wealth management firm.
A News source spotted the couple at the Manhattan Supreme Court building, but the ex-gov wouldn’t admit that they were dating.
“I wouldn’t rule it out because she’s a really terrific person,” he said.
Perhaps Paterson didn’t want things to be awkward with his new morning radio co-host, Curtis Sliwa, after they launched “Curtis and the Gov.”
After The News reported the relationship, the former subway vigilante dispelled any rumors he was jealous.
“I approve of this relationship,’ Sliwa posted on Facebook along with photos of he and Paterson doing their radio show.
“My former radio partner (former Gov.) David Paterson (pictured here as Curtis Sliwa) has agreed to perform the ceremony when I marry the next future Ex Mrs. Sliwa. This should up the ante for the contest,” the Guardian Angel joked at the time.
The couple’s courtship has taken more than four years.
Paterson and Sliwa’s coworkers offered to hire a yacht to deliver the bride to the ceremony, said Sean Darcy, a spokesman for Paterson. She declined, seeking to avoid any extra attention.
After the wedding the couple will honeymoon on the Jersey Shore.
