Gleyber takes it easy one more time

-

TORONTO — Gleyber Torres did not play Thursday in the Yankees’ 12-6 victory over the Blue Jays at the Rogers’ Centre, which was expected.

The second baseman, who has left two out of the last three games with “core pain,” was cleared by team doctors for the second time, but admitted Wednesday night he was sore and probably could use another day of rest.

Team doctors cleared Torres of having a hernia or being at risk for damaging his body by playing. Neither Aaron Boone nor Torres said

they knew exactly what the issue is.

So, the Yankees were pretty much playing a man short for the second straight game because Torres was not hurt enough put on the injured list, but also not available.

NO DECISION

Luke Voit began running and is optimistic he can avoid surgery, Boone said Thursday, but has still not decided how to move forward with his sports hernia.

SÁNCHEZ SOON

Gary Sánchez went 0for-2 with a walk and a run scored Thursday night for Triple-A Scranton. He caught seven innings in backto-back games, wrapping up his two-game minor-league rehab assignment. Sánchez, who has been on the injured list with a strained groin since July 24, is expected to be back in the major league lineup on Saturday . ... David Hale was on the mound in the visitors bullpen before Thursday night’s game, his first time since going on the IL with a back injury . ... Luis Severino will take a big step forward in his rehab program today. The right-hander will throw off a mound for the first time since he was shut down with a strained, or partially torn, lat injury in April.
