Judge slams dad who left kid in hot car

- BY TREVOR BOYER AND ROCCO PARASCANDOLA

A furious Queens judge Friday lashed out at a suburban stay-at-home father for leaving his 5-year-old alone in a car in 90-degree heat while he ran a shopping errand.

Geremie Ram, 42, of New Rochelle, was released without bail at arraignment in Queens Criminal Court but ordered to have no contact with little Aviv.

Ram, who has no prior record, was charged with reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child and misdemeanor drug possession.

Ten pills of Xanax were found in the car.

“You cannot leave a child alone in a car, especially in hot weather,” Judge Karina Alomar told Ram. “It takes minutes for a child to die.”

City firefighter Matthew Clinton rescued the sweating, crying Aviv Thursday afternoon from the car on 20th Ave. near 132nd St. in College Point by smashing the driver’s side window with a hammer and pulling the boy to safety.

Ram insists he was gone less than a minute after parking his Subaru, windows closed, at a Target, leaving Aviv strapped in his car seat. A witness told police he was gone at least 15 minutes.

“I went to return something to Target,” he told police, according to court papers, “and was only in there for 30 seconds.”

Alomar flatly rejected the request of Ram’s lawyer, Rochelle Berliner, that he be allowed to see his son, but not to drive him.

Outside court, Ram and his wife, a hedge-fund vice president, walked hand in hand across Queens Blvd., taking Berliner’s advice not to answer questions.

The incident follows the tragic death of year-old twins in the back seat of their father’s sweltering hot car in the Bronx on July 26.

Juan Rodriguez, 39, said he forgot to drop the twins off at daycare, leaving them strapped inside the car for his entire eight-hour work shift.

He was charged with manslaughter, but his lawyer has made an appeal for leniency.
