Menace busted

Troublemaker slammed woman into train – cops

-

A “transit nuisance” with a record of arrests for pulling brakes on subway trains and exposing himself to straphangers was busted Thursday in connection with a harrowing assault against a woman on a Brooklyn subway platform, police said.

Isaiah Thompson, 28, was wanted for questioning in the incident in which a woman was thrown headfirst against the side of in idling subway train at the DeKalb Ave. station in Fort Greene.

The incident at 7:40 p.m.

Wednesday was caught on video. Police believe the video shows Thompson pushing two people during the clash, and then shoving the woman — a bystander — into the side of the train.

Thompson was arrested over the summer for allegedly exposing himself to passengers while surfing on the outside of an A train at the 14th St. station on May 16 and for pulling an emergency brake on a No. 2 train at W. 14th St. on May 21 during the evening rush. He has also been busted for 14 other transit-related crimes, including trying to shove a woman onto the tracks.

The video of Wednesday’s scary incident shows a man police believe is Thompson pushing two men on the Coney Island-bound D/N platform before he jumps around screaming, “What? What?”

He then without warning shoves a woman standing a few feet from him from behind, sending her headfirst into the side of the train as passengers disembark, according to the video.

After shoving the woman, the assailant jumped down onto the tracks and ran into the tunnel.

Cops were called to the scene, but the pusher was already gone.

The woman was not seriously injured and never filed a police complaint, sources said.

The NYPD launched its own investigation after the video surfaced.

Transit cops who monitor the DeKalb Ave. station immediately recognized Thompson from the video, a police source with knowledge of the case said.

“The officers on patrol at the station recognized him,” the source said. “They had seen him in the station before and plan to grab him for this when they see him again.”

When questioned after his earlier arrests, Thompson said that he exposed himself to commuters “because I wanted the attention.”

“I did it to mess with transit and for the fun of it,” he said, according to court papers. “I do this alone. I’ve been going on tracks and surfing for about a year and a half. I’ve been pulling the brakes for two months.”

NYC Transit President Andy Byford on Thursday said Thompson should be banned from using the subway system. Metropolitan Transportation Authority officials have repeatedly stated they do not have the power to implement such a ban.

“This individual is a criminal, and it’s unacceptable that he be allowed to continue to create mayhem on the subways, mayhem he admits is deliberate, that puts riders’ and MTA employees’ lives at risk,” said Byford. “He should be banned from the system — period.”
