Bloom files in Ark. for Dem vote

- BY CHRIS SOMMERFELDT AND DAVE GOLDINER

Michael Bloomberg is trying to make a big splash in Little Rock.

The billionaire ex-mayor jetted into the Arkansas city on Tuesday and secured a spot on the state’s Democratic presidential primary ballot.

“Officially filed in Arkansas,” Bloomberg tweeted along with a picture of himself submitting paperwork for the 2020 primary. “We must defeat Trump. He has failed us at every turn.”

After registering, the 77-yearold billionaire chowed down on barbecue with Little Rock Mayor Frank Scott and tweeted out a picture of the lunch as well.

“Enjoyed meeting with Little Rock’s impressive mayor,” Bloomberg (inset) posted, “and hearing his vision for the city.”

Bloomberg is leaning toward launching a presidential bid and has warned that the current field of Democratic candidates isn’t equipped to defeat President Trump.

Should he ultimately decide to run, Bloomberg plans to bypass the first four primary states in favor of focusing on the March 3 Super Tuesday elections, which include Arkansas and Alabama. Bloomberg filed in Alabama last week.

A Bloomberg adviser declined to give a timeline, but told the Daily News that the ultrawealthy ex-mayor will make up his mind “soon.”

In other 2020 news, former South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford on Tuesday pulled the plug on his long-shot bid to challenge Trump for the Republican nomination next year. Sanford’s short-lived campaign didn’t garner any national attention and only one person — a reporter — showed up for his official 2020 announcement in Philadelphia on Oct. 17.

The ex-South Carolina governor said he was dropping out because of the House impeachment inquiry.

“Impeachment has made my goal of making the debt, deficit and spending issue a part of this presidential debate impossible right now,” Sanford told reporters in New Hampshire.

Also Tuesday, sources said former Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick is, like Bloomberg, considering jumping into the Democratic presidential race at the last minute.
