Seaford, L.I.: Despite 20 years of innocents being slaughtered and our police having to put their lives on the line daily to protect every one of us, Congress and the president remain resolute in their acceptance of the loss of life from gun violence. They pretend to be representatives of the people, but it’s an act that they can’t pull off. Our government has failed our children and is petrified to have the conversation necessary to reverse their failure. How sad it is when our kids ask for help and adults give them the same tired rhetoric they have for years, and then go off on their way, hoping to disappear into a fog of lies that has been deceitfully perpetuated with financial help from their friends at the NRA.
Hey, kids, don’t be diminished by the incompetence of your government. Use it to further your resolve and move this country in the direction you want it to go. Many of those who came before you have thrown in the towel or are clinging to their own twisted interpretation of the Second Amendment. It is your turn to pick up the ball and run. Run for the students of Saugus High School in California and don’t look back. Your future is in front of you. Bob Bascelli
Warwick, R.I.: With the Saugus High School tragedy in California, it now becomes apparent that we cannot wait for new regulations for gun control measures. We need an increase in defensive means to ensure student safety such as creating a single point of entry after school starts to control entry into classrooms and corridors; providing panic button apps for all staff; having all classroom doors fitted with automatic deadbolt locking systems; and creating and identifying hardened areas for “sheltering in place” and installing bulletproof glazing for all classroom doors. New normal
Delray Beach, Fla.: On Thursday in California, there was a school shooting. A 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old girl were killed and the silence in the news is deafening. What has happened to our country? This is not normal. Trump is sucking out the normalcy in our country.
Abortion debater
Isabel Rudd
Barnegat, N.J.: In response to Voicer Janet Cecin’s letter: I enjoyed reading your letter. However, I must respond by saying that Planned Parenthood is the largest single abortion provider in the country. I doubt that, as you say, many locations do not provide abortion procedures at all. I am a humane person and therefore would never deny anyone (including the unborn ) medical care no matter their ethnicity, social or financial status. I assume you also are humane and care for all living creatures and their needs, including the unborn. I only wish that Planned Parenthood would
completely separate itself from abortion services and truly be just health-service organization.

Quid pro Cuomo
Monroe, N.Y.: If Gov. Cuomo decides to run for president, I’m sure ex-Rikers Island inmate Jose Jorge will be his biggest financial supporter (“Judge cites new bail law, frees drug dealer facing lifetime in prison after Upper East Side OD,” Nov. 14).
Irene De Fasio
Veteran wife club
Manhattan: I agree with Voicer Lynn Jurgensen. My husband also served in the Korean War. He was in the U.S. Army Infantry in combat on the front lines. He was awarded the Bronze Star. This was a dangerous and deadly war that seems to be forgotten. Next year I hope these men will be remembered. Diane Wintering
Team Dreamer
Bronx: To Voicer Colleen Passafiume: Your thinking concerning the dreamers is illogical, unfair and, frankly, immoral. Blaming children for the “sins” or illegal actions of their parents is archaic and illogical. These children were brought here without their consent and are not guilty of breaking any laws. They have lived here all of their lives and have no roots where their parents came from. Colleen, the Dreamers should not be lumped with other immigrants seeking admission. The dreamers deserve special consideration because of their extraordinary circumstances.
Law and order
Gilbert M. Lane
Brooklyn: We are a nation of laws. The law applies to everyone. No one is above the law — including illegal immigrants. Don’t open Pandora’s Box. John Russo
Sports, schmorts
Oakland Gardens: Why do the awful Knicks get back pages and beat-writer coverage, when New York’s hockey teams get ignored? Come on, there is something good happening with the Islanders (not a fan), and you are missing the boat as the Rangers’ spectacular 18-yearold rookie, Kappo Kakko, is beginning to take the NHL by storm. Your sports section, once the best around, is a sham. Gerald E. Maley
Road rules
Rockaway Park: I have a reality check for Voicer Mary Garvey: She should try leaving Manhattan once in a while and see how people in the other four boroughs live. In many areas, mass transit is poor to non-existent, as it is here in the Rockaways. If you don’t own a car, you must use a car service or Uber. Midtown is an hour and a half away by subway, ferry or express bus. So, in the other four boroughs, the vast majority of residents do own cars. They just don’t drive them to Manhattan if they can help it.

Furrrgedaboutit
Brooklyn: One thing I can agree on with Nicole Rivard is that we can indeed do better regarding animals and the law (“Forget about fur, Sundays
AP and all days” op-ed, Nov. 10). We can listen to professionals instead of special interest groups. Why do we continue to allow the animal rights cult to promote their beliefs through laws based on emotion and not facts? Foie gras is raised humanely, all the Council had to do is accept the invitation to see for themselves. Carriage horses are fine under current law but vets say the new law puts them at greater risk. It’s no surprise that Rivard uses the standard lies about how animals are raised for fur that are used to sway emotions and promote the use of polluting plastic fake fur (made from oil, animals that died in the past). A special thanks to our speaker for the death of expertise in the Council. Obviously farmers and carriage drivers cannot outbid the animal rights special interest money. Walker Blankinship
Sorry, John, but…
Rosedale: Well, People magazine got it wrong again! It’s Jon Bon Jovi who is the Sexiest Man Alive, not John Legend! Have you seen the man? Even at the age of 57, Bon Jovi is and always will be my one and only pick!
