W. Side beef turns into stab spree

- BY THOMAS TRACY

Police have charged three of the four men involved in a bloody stabbing brawl in Midtown that spread over five blocks, officials said Tuesday.

The Monday night melee broke out at W. 36th St. and Eighth Ave. about 9 p.m. and ended 15 minutes later on W. 41st St., cops said.

Troy Britt, 39, Reginald Law, 34, and Brannovan Martinez, 20, were arguing with a 27-year-old man when the beef turned bloody — and the 27-year-old stabbed Martinez in the stomach, cops said.

The assailant ran off, but was cornered by the three enraged men outside Schnippers, a restaurant on the first floor of The New York Times building on W. 41st St.

There, the trio — armed with a knife and tire iron — turned on the assailant, authorities charge.

“They chased him across the street and cornered him in front of The New York Times lobby,” witness Frank Martin, 49, told the Daily News on Monday night. “They said, ‘You wanna try stabbing? You’re not going anywhere.’ ”

“That’s when the tire iron came out and the stabbing started,” Martin said. “It was hard to tell who was doing what to who.”

When cops were called to E. 41st St., they found Britt with a stab wound to the shoulder, Law with a slashed hand and the unidentified rival with stab wounds to the buttocks and hand.

All three were taken to Bellevue Hospital with minor injuries.

Martinez ran off and was found on Sixth Ave. and W. 46th St., still bleeding from his stab wound. He, too, was taken to Bellevue Hospital, cops said.

After a brief investigation, cops charged Britt and Law with assault and gang assault, cops said. Martinez was also charged with gang assault.

No charges have been filed against the 27-year-old while detectives try to determine if he was defending himself against Martinez, authorities said.
